440c Stainless Steel Hot-Rolled And Cold Drawn Rod, High-Performance Steel Rod, Heat Treatment Adjusts Its Properties

440c stainless steel introduction:

chemical composition: unit%

Cr C Si Mn S P
16.00~18.00 0.95~1.20 ≤1.00 ≤1.00 ≤0.030 ≤0.035
Ni
≤0.60

The chemical composition of 440C mainly includes carbon (C), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), molybdenum (Mo) and other elements. Among them, the high carbon content makes 440C have high hardness and wear resistance; the chromium content is between 17%-19%, which provides good corrosion resistance for the steel; the addition of nickel and molybdenum further improves the comprehensive performance of the steel.

The physical properties of 440C include density, melting point, thermal conductivity, etc. Its density is about 7.78 g/cm³, the melting point is between 1398-1454℃, and the thermal conductivity is low. These physical properties enable 440C to maintain good stability in high temperature environments.

Heat treatment process

The heat treatment process of 440C mainly includes two steps: quenching and tempering. Quenching is to heat the steel to above the critical temperature and then cool it quickly to obtain martensite structure. Tempering is to heat the steel to a certain range below the critical temperature after quenching, keep it warm for a period of time and then cool it to eliminate quenching stress and improve the toughness of the steel.

Mechanical properties

The mechanical properties of 440C include tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, cross-sectional shrinkage, etc. After proper heat treatment, the tensile strength of 440C can reach more than 880 MPa, and the yield strength is also around 780 MPa. The elongation and cross-sectional shrinkage are relatively low, but it still has good plasticity and toughness.

Corrosion resistance

The corrosion resistance of 440C is mainly due to its high chromium content. Chromium can form a dense oxide film, which effectively prevents the corrosion of corrosive media on steel. In addition, other alloying elements in 440C also help to improve its corrosion resistance. In atmospheric environment, 440C has good rust resistance; in corrosive media such as acid and alkali, it also shows good corrosion resistance.

Application Areas

Due to its excellent corrosion resistance and hardness, 440C is widely used in various occasions that require high corrosion resistance and high hardness. The following are some typical application areas:

1. Medical equipment: 440C is often used to manufacture medical equipment such as scalpels, scissors, needles, etc., because of its good corrosion resistance and sharpness.

2. Kitchenware: 440C can be used to make high-end kitchenware, such as kitchen knives, frying pans, etc. Its wear resistance and corrosion resistance make it an ideal kitchenware material.

3. Valves and pumps: 440C has good corrosion resistance and wear resistance when manufacturing fluid control equipment such as valves and pumps.

4. Bearings and gears: 440C can be used to manufacture transmission parts such as bearings and gears. Its hardness and wear resistance ensure the long-term stable operation of the equipment.

5. Aerospace: In the field of aerospace, 440C can be used to manufacture certain high-temperature parts, such as turbine blades.

As a high-performance martensitic stainless steel, 440C has excellent corrosion resistance and hardness. Its mechanical properties can be further improved through reasonable heat treatment process.

Delivery status:

If heat treatment is required, it will be delivered after heat treatment.

If not required, it will be delivered without heat treatment.

If you need any help, I'm happy to help you solve your confusion.

Have a good day
